It is imperative to oust Narendra Modi led BJP government at the Centre at the ensuing 17th Lok Sabha elections to save the Constitution, preserve democratic institutions and maintain secular fabric of the nation, said CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury.
The last five years have seen brazen attacks on the secular and democratic foundations of the country under the Modi dispensation, he charged, saying the forthcoming elections were crucial to trounce the fascist regime and ensure a secular, democratic and alternative government at the Centre.
Mr. Yechury participated in a meeting and a rally held in connection with the filing of nomination by the party candidate B Venkat from Khammam Lok Sabha constituency here on Friday.
Addressing the gathering at the Pavilion Grounds here, he slammed the BJP dispensation for allegedly pursuing communal politics and vitiating secular atmosphere in the country.
Spate of attacks
“The nation has witnessed a spate of attacks on Dalits and Muslims by the private armies such as cow vigilante groups under the BJP rule in the last five years. Those involved in heinous attacks targeting minorities, marginalised sections and innocents were allowed to go scot-free under the present dispensation,” he charged.
The persons at the helm are bent upon trying to make the recent Pulwama incident in Jammu and Kashmir a poll issue to derive electoral mileage.
The situation in Jammu and Kashmir turned unstable and the terror attacks increased multi-fold under the BJP regime at the Centre, he alleged.
The BJP misrule weakened all the vital sectors, including economy, leaving all sections like farmers, workers and unemployed youth distressed. This government has waived loans worth ₹ 3.50 lakh crore of a select few business tycoons and corporate entities besides allowing some fraudsters to go abroad unscathed by multi-crore scams, he charged.
Left unity
The representation of the Left parties in Parliament should increase to give the common man and marginalised sections a voice and ensure implementation of alternative economic policies, Mr. Yechury insisted, saying the need of the hour is unity among the Left and democratic forces to install a secular government at the Centre.
CPI (M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram, former Bhadrachalam MP Midiam Babu Rao and others were present.
