Liam Jones fined $2000 for bump on Jack Riewoldt
Carlton defender Liam Jones will be available to play Port Adelaide in round two after avoiding suspension for a bump on Richmond star Jack Riewoldt in the AFL season-opener on Thursday night.
Jones was instead fined $2000 for the off-the-ball incident at the MCG. It was the only charge laid after the Tigers’ 33-point win.
Riewoldt spent time on the ground after the clash and appeared winded, but managed to play out the match, helping the Tigers to a 33-point win over Carlton.
The incident was classed as intentional conduct with low impact to the body and Jones can accept the $2000 fine with an early plea.
Jones shapes as a key player for the Blues in the early part of the season with Caleb Marchbank still unavailable due to a back injury.
