A total of five candidates, including AIADMK’s G. Manimaran (52) filed their nominations for contesting in the Erode Parliamentary constituency here on Friday.
While P. Chitra (40), an independent candidate from Kodumudi, filed her nomination papers with the Principal Assistant Returning Officer of Erode (West) Assembly Constituency who is also the Revenue Divisional Officer, other candidates M. Gopal (32) of Bahujan Samaj Party, G. Manimaran and his wife M. Priya (46), both from Kangeyam in Tiruppur district and another independent candidate A. Arunachalam (68) from Fairlands in Salem filed their nominations with the Returning Officer and Collector C. Kathiravan at the Collectorate.
Mr. Manimaran in his affidavit said that he has movable assets totalling ₹1.21 crore, including ₹50 lakh cash, deposits of ₹25.38 lakh in banks, and 640 grams of gold worth ₹19.20 lakh and immovable assets worth ₹3.02 crore. He had stated that his liability through borrowings is at ₹2.93 crore while movable assets in his wife’s name totalled ₹58.51 lakh and immovable asset was ₹2.46 crore.
The affidavit stated that no cases were registered against him and he was running a rice mill and rice mandy. He had completed his Plus Two at Government High School at Kangeyam in 1984. Since vehicles were parked on the Perundurai Road by the AIADMK party cadre in large numbers, movement of vehicles were disrupted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
