Advocates demand facilities in revenue courts
TNN | Mar 23, 2019, 04:05 ISTVadodara: Lawyers in the city have raised the issue of lack of facilities at the offices of the revenue department during the hearing of revenue cases. The Baroda Bar Association (BBA) submitted a memorandum in this connection as well as regarding unnecessary harassment by cops.
In the memorandum lawyers have alleged that there were no facilities for lawyers and their clients for hearings of revenue cases. The memorandum states that the hearings of such cases often got delayed and the lawyers had to wait without having any seating arrangements.
The memorandum states that the officials holding the hearings were often out for other government work or on leave on the day of the hearing. This led to time of lawyers being wasted as no hearing took place on the fixed date. The memorandum has alleged that there were agents who were using their connections for doing the jobs of lawyers.
The bar has also demanded that the state government should come up with an Advocate Protection Act like in other states. The memorandum states that it was being frequently noticed that unnecessary cases were being registered against lawyers using baseless allegations. At the other end, complaints made by advocates were not being entertained even if they were genuine.
