As the State continues to sizzle, fears of a long summer with acute water scarcity worry residents.
Project C5 — Change Can Change Climate Change, an initiative in which volunteers, professionals, and social workers come together with the district administration to mitigate the effects of climate change, is taking a step to address the problem.
C5 will organise an awareness programme in connection with the World Water Day celebrations on Friday evening. The theme this year is ‘Leaving no one behind.’ Assistant Collector Priyanka G. will be the chief guest. Aptly named Jeevanam, the programme, part of C5’s Stithi component that focusses on mass campaigning for implementing green protocol and creating awareness of sustainable lifestyle practices in the district, aims at creating awareness of water conservation and water rejuvenation.
Details to be collected
Information on polluted water resources in the district will also be collected from the public. Those coming to attend the programme at Manaveeyam Veedhi at 6.15 p.m. will be encouraged to pass on to the organisers of Jeevanam details of polluted water resources in their vicinity. The work will be taken up in association with the environment conservation group Environmentalists Foundation of India, which will lend technical support. The district administration will provide regulatory support.
A couple of ponds have already been identified — the one on the campus of NSS College for Women, Neeramankara, and near B.Ed. College at Karyavattom — says Bharath. For details, call 9633096769.
