The display board at the Mandaveli Telephone Exchange needs an information revamp

Commuters boarding Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses from Mandaveli Telephone Exchange bus stop are a confused lot. A majority of them are not sure which route numbers halt at the stop as the display board is misleading. Some of the route numbers listed are: H51, J29C, 102K, 21K, 21L, 109 and 6D. Now, the first two route numbers are non-existent. The other bus routes ply through Santhome High Road and Kamarajar Salai but not through Mandaveli.

The stop is located on Ramakrishna Math Road (towards Luz), which is a halting point for white board buses. But, the board mentions that route numbers A1, 1D, 1A and 1C halt at the stop. Route numbers 1D, 1A and 1C do not have white board services. The white board services of A1 plies only once a week.

A newcomer to the area would realise this mistake only after waiting for some time at the bus stop.

B. Vijay, a long-time resident of Mandaveli, says MTC must incorporate the information of the current bus routes at the stop.

He has a few more suggestions: “Steps should also be taken to ensure all route numbers halt at the stop so that residents of Velayudham Street, Kandhaswamy Street, School Road and Thiruvengadam Street are benefited. The nearest bus stop for residents of these areas are the Mandaveli bus terminus bus stop, but it is a challenge to get there. Pedestrians have to share a space with motorists due to encroachments by commercial establishments and haphazard parking of vehicles on both sides of Ramakrishna Math Road.”

GCC officials said they would look into the issue and do the needful at the earliest by coordinating with MTC.
