Amaglug-glug destroy Angola in Luanda

2019-03-22 22:52

Cape Town - South Africa's U23 side showed their class in attack as they mauled Angola 3-1 in Friday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Luanda.

The dominating display puts the team in a great position to qualify for the next round of the AFCON qualifiers in the competition.

If they reach the U23 tournament, it gives David Notoane's men the chance to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo if they do well in the competition.

The second leg of this second round qualifier takes place on 26 March at Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg.

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Phakamani Mahlambi gave the visitors the advantage inside the first 10 minutes after a superb attacking move.

Nine minutes later the away team were 2-0 up as Ajax Cape Town defender Thendo Mukumela increased the advantage after he was set up by good play from winger Luther Singh.

Amaglug-glug took the lead into the break and it was 3-0 with just over 20 minutes to go as the Urban Warriors' Grant Margeman converted.

Lopez Texeira pulled one back for Angola in the final five minutes of the encounter to give the junior Giant sable antelopes at least a fighting chance in the second leg in South Africa.
