The popular skywalk at Bandra (East) will be closed to public for the next three months as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will dismantle a portion of it to facilitate the construction of a flyover.

The MMRDA will be dismantling the portion of the skywalk between Nandadeep Garden, near Kalanagar junction, and the office of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority. The skywalk, which starts at Bandra station, has two arms: one that connects the Metropolitan Magistrate Court and the other that ends at Kalanagar junction. The skywalk that is used by lakhs of commuters daily will be shut from March 25 to June 24.

“The dismantling is necessitated as the said portion falls in the alignment of the flyover running from the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to the Bandra Worli Sea Link,” an MMRDA spokesperson said.

The MMRDA is constructing the flyover that will provide seamless connectivity from the Bandra Worli Sea Link to BKC. The flyover will have two arms, measuring 780 metres and 720 metres, will have two lanes each, and is expected to be completed by July.

“Once completed, the flyover will help decongest traffic jams caused during peak hours while entering and exiting BKC,” the MMRDA spokesperson said.
