Is Graham Reid set to become the new coach of Indian men's hockey team?

The Indian team has been without a regular chief coach after Harendra Singh was sacked following the World Cup at home last year. Hockey India (HI) then advertised for the role and reportedly received multiple applications. However, there has been no official word so far from HI on the number or names of persons who have applied for the job.
But a report in hockey.nl late on Thursday suggested that it could be Reid heading to India after he was "dismissed" by AH&BC, more popularly known as Amsterdam, from his position of the team's coach.
"Graham Reid has immediately left as coach of Amsterdam. The Australian announced this week to the Dutch big league that there is a concrete interest from India to become national coach there," the report said.
"That was reason for the club, which suffered a historic 2-8 loss against HGC on Sunday and performed disappointingly this season, to dismiss Reid immediately," it added.
Meanwhile, a press release from the club confirmed the development.
"The current disappointing results emphasize the need for change. In addition, Reid has indicated that he may have a new challenge in the short term outside Amsterdam. The combination of these factors led to this decision," read the statement from the club.
The Indian team is currently in Ipoh, Malaysia, for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup under the guidance of interim coach David John, who is also HI's high performance director.
Reid, who is Australia's silver-medallist from the 1992 Olympics and bronze medallist from the 1990 World Cup, has creditable coaching credentials.
He was appointed Australia's assistant coach in 2009 and went on to become the head coach, which included two Champions Trophy triumphs as well as the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold.
After the 2016 Rio Olympics, he became the assistant coach of Netherlands men's team and the head coach of Amsterdam.
"Reportedly, Reid has not yet signed with India. But should he become a national coach in India, then the Dutch national coach Max Caldas must look for a new assistant national coach," hockey.nl further reported.
After advertising for the post in January, HI twice extended the deadline, which finally ended on February 28 with reportedly over a dozen applications from both foreign and Indian coaches.
Once the name of the coach is short-listed by HI, it is then forwarded to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) that takes the final call.
