Hubballi: As many as 56 bonded labourers of 16 families were freed from a brick kiln in Ginigera village in Koppal district on Friday.

Sources said the male labourers were bought for Rs 50,000 each and women for Rs 30,000 each from two-three districts of Odisha.

“Based on information from a Bengaluru based non-government organization, deputy commissioner P Sunil Kumar formed a team of officials from the labour department. The team raided the brick kiln, rescued the bonded labourers and brought the 56 labourers to Koppal,” they added.
