Anderson opens Miami campaign against Nadal prodigy

2019-03-22 12:52

Cape Town - South Africa's Kevin Anderson will play Spain's Jaume Munar in his opening match at the Miami Open on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Munar, ranked 61st in the world and a product of Rafael's Nadal's academy in Mallorca, reached the second round with a 7-6 (7/3), 6-4 win over Indian qualifier Prajnesh Gunneswaran.

Anderson, the sixth seed, had a bye in the first round.

The lanky South African will be looking to hit the ground running in Miami, having missed his last few tournaments due to an elbow injury.

Meanwhile, South Africa's other participant in the men's singles, Lloyd Harris, lost in qualifying.

The 22-year-old was beaten 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (7/2) by Brazil's Thiago Monteiro.
