They demand disbursal of salary for February

In-fighting among different groups of the managing committee has again left some 200 teaching and non-teaching staff of Devanga Arts College without salary till date for February.

The staff of both aided and self-financing streams staged a sit-in protest in front of the Principal’s room after class hours on Wednesday evening. The protesters said that the agitation will continue on Thursday.

A senior teaching faculty said that the controversy over whether R. Ramasamy could continue as the secretary of the college and the legal battles in the court had led to the present mess. After one group of the management committee said that his tenure as secretary got over in August 2018, Mr. Ramasamy refused to give up.

This led to the inordinate delay in disbursal of salary before Deepavali. After a long protest, the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education invoked a Government Order 1021 and issued orders in October 2018 for disbursal of the salary of staff of aided stream.

However, subsequently Mr. Ramasamy got a stay for the order and he was consequently made the secretary again. Again his rivals in the management got stay on his reappointment as secretary that has now led to the present mess, he added.
