Political dramas are filling our screens, and Malayalam cinema's latest - Lucifer - joins the bandwagon.
What happens in the aftermath of the death of a political stalwart? A fight for the big chair, and along with it, chaos . This seems to be the central theme of the much-awaited Lucifer, which is directed by actor Prithviraj.
The opening monologue by an in-form Mohanlal promises much action and drama in the film. "This is not a battle between good and evil; it's a fight between evil and evil," says protagonist Stephen Nedumpally, who seems to exist in the grey area between hero and villain. The title Lucifer itself is a reference to the Biblical fallen angel.
In the few shots in which he is seen in the trailer, Tovino Thomas makes an impact as a young politician who calls Indian politics as 'the world's biggest comedy'. Manju Warrier is distraught throughout the trailer, except for a chilling phone call. There seems to be no limit to the number of antagonists, but a menacing Vivek Oberoi stands out.
Lucifer has an ensemble cast starring Mohanlal, Vivek Oberoi, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Saniya Iyappan, Saikumar, Kalabhavan Shajohn and Nyla Usha among others. Prithviraj's most recent release was 9, which was the first film to be produced by Prithviraj Productions. Music is scored by Deepak Dev and cinematography is by Sujith Vaassudev.
The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under his banner Aashirvad Cinemas and is expected to hit the screens on March 28.
