Three special police teams were formed and one of them was sent to Andhra Pradesh to search for persons who robbed a businessman and his wife in Tirupattur on Wednesday, said a senior police official.

The victim, Murugan, 60, of Erikodi Vanniyar Vattam, Tirupattur, was involved in jaggery production. He and his wife, Kaliammal, were sleeping in their house, when masked burglars entered their house and robbed them of ₹11,000 cash and 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery. They were rescued by neighbours and on a complaint, the Tiruppatur taluk police registered a case.
