Get ready to say goodbye to the evening breeze as higher temperatures loom over the weekend. The month of March sees transition from Mumbai's laughable winter to high summer and temperatures have been recorded to range between 38 to 40 degree Celsius.
Mumbai saw a maximum temperatures of 30 degree Celsius on Thursday, while the minimum was at 20.5 degree Celsius. A gradual rise in day temperatures is expected from Saturday in north Konkan, south Gujarat, Vidharbha and Marathwada regions.
Rajesh Kapadia, a private weather forecaster, said northerly winds kept Mumbai cool in the evenings, but north-easterly winds or inland winds will take over from Saturday, making citizens sweat after sunset too. However it could get windy on Sunday and Monday evening; minimum temperatures in Santacruz could rise to around 22 degree Celsius. "Even hill stations such as Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar may not offer respite, with mercury touching 34-35 degree Celsius in the former and 33-34 degree Celsius in the latter," he said. The heat is likely to subside after Wednesday.
