The festival is celebrated in two parts: Khadi Holi and Baithaki Holi. People sing folk songs and smear Gulal on each other. The procession goes to each family in the village to celebrate the festival. This is celebrated mainly in Almora and Nainital districts of Uttarakhand. People splash water on each other, but no permanent colours are used. Villagers in Kumaon prefer to play Holi the simple way.
