WAKEFIELD, Mass., March 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- There are significant changes happening in Social Security. Boomers are retiring and taking their benefits later. Because of increased life expectancy and improved health benefits, for many, there is less incentive to retire early. This is coupled with the fact that for most workers, Defined Benefit Plans have largely disappeared; replaced by Defined Contribution Plans which are funded by employees.

"Because these plans have been voluntary, retirees need other sources of readily available income. Still other boomers point to the fact that full retirement age has grown to 66 and in many cases, 67,"  said Susan Fisher, CFP®, RICP® is a Financial Educator, Speaker, and Retirement Income Specialist. For those who can wait to take Social Security; they are rewarded with as much as 132% of their Primary Insurance Amount (PIA).

Social Security is just one factor. "Accumulating enough money to retire with confidence and peace of mind is a challenging feat that fewer and fewer Americans are able to accomplish. Many don't understand that the principles to successfully preserve, protect and pass on wealth are different than the principles to accumulate wealth," said Fisher.

More than 44 million Americans over age 65 are facing stiff challenges to retire and stay retired. Susan educates and equips retirees against the little-known mistakes and costly missteps that can derail their lifestyle in retirement.

Fisher continues, "Women, whether they are executives, professionals, or business owners face a different set of obstacles. As a result of widely held myths about Social Security, wealth and money, many are making some costly mistakes and are not even aware of it. It's my passion and mission to be sure that women are well-equipped to fully enjoy their lifestyle and leave a legacy they can be proud of."

"AARP reported that 2 out of 3 older Americans fear running out of money more than dying. Imagine being 75 years old, in great health, full of life, and running out of money. The fear of running out of money is not unfounded and retirees deserve to live with greater peace and freedom in retirement," Fisher adds.

Besides taxes, running afoul of IRS retirement account rules can cost retirees a bundle. According to Forbes, "Americans paid an estimated $5.8 billion in penalties on retirement account withdrawals. (That's in addition to the regular tax owed on those withdrawals.)"

In addition, the Wall Street Journal reported that, "Uncle Sam is about to get a lot tougher on individual retirement account mistakes-and that could trip up investors who aren't careful."

"It's my mission to educate 50, 60 and sometimes near 70 year olds about how to maximize their Social Security and retirement resources so they can more fully enjoy that wealth," says Fisher, "and more successfully preserve, protect and pass it on."
