The police team from Tiruvalam in Vellore arrested Arul, 36, a painter from Sevvoor for murdering his brother-in-law Nethaji, 60, a watchman, under the influence of alcohol.
The police said they were drinking near the Sevvoor bus stop, when Nethaji disrespected Arul. Irked over this, the latter rammed the former’s head on a concrete pole and fled. On hearing the information, the Tiruvalam police made arrangements to send Nethaji to the Government Hospital in Adukkamparai, Vellore.
But doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His body was subjected to post mortem on Thursday and the police arrested Arul for murder. Further investigations are on.
