Child dies after being struck by vehicle at petrol station

A child has died after being struck by a vehicle at the BP petrol station north of Brisbane.

Paramedics were called to the scene on the Bruce Highway at Burpengary just after 5pm on Thursday.

The child sustained critical injuries but was not taken to hospital after paramedics could not save the child.

However, the driver of the vehicle was taken to the Caboolture Hospital suffering from shock.

Australian Traffic Network spokesman Ben Mihan said traffic was building on the Bruce Highway as traffic was being diverted around the petrol station.

“There was a bit of traffic while emergency services were trying to get to the scene at the service station car park,” he said.

“The off-ramp was still accessible as traffic was being diverted away from the car park by police.”

Mr Mihan said traffic began to ease by about 6.30pm.
