The corpse of a 16-day-old baby girl, who went missing on Tuesday, was found in a gutter near her home in Sion on Wednesday. Police say there is an indication that someone known to the family is behind the heinous crime.
The girl was kidnapped from her home in Sunder Kamla Nagar slums, located near King Circle railway station, on Tuesday morning. "The mother was in the bathroom, the mother-in-law stepped out for an errand and the sister-in-law was washing clothes on the terrace. When the mother returned, the infant was missing," said a police officer.
The family launched a search in the locality and when that did not bear fruit, approached the Sion police. "We found her body in a gutter near her home and sent it to Sion Hospital for an autopsy," said a police officer. A case of murder was registered.
"We believe the crime is committed by someone who is known to the family and the motive could be animosity. We've recovered some vital leads and will soon bring the culprit to book," the police officer said.
