The Public Works Department (PWD) will launch the road development work on the Kuttoor-Manackachira-Muthoor road that has been identified as the outer ring road to Thiruvalla town in the next three weeks. The final survey of the road is progressing fast.
Talking to The Hindu, assistant executive engineer C.B. Subhashkumar said the 12.5-km road would be developed as per the State Highway standards.
Proper drainages
He said the flood-prone and water logging stretches of the road would be raised by 40 to 80 cm and proper drainages would be constructed on either side.
As many as 15 culverts and a bridge across the natural stream, Puliyathode, would be constructed as part of the road development project, he said.
The minor irrigation wing will have to reconstruct the already damaged shutters across the Madhurampuzha irrigation canal before the onset of the next monsoon season so as to avert the vagaries of floods.
Mathew T. Thomas, MLA, said the road development work, estimated to cost ₹25.8 crore, would be executed with funds from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
Easing congestion
The project, once completed, would be of great help in addressing the traffic congestion on the MC Road as it would act as a link road connecting Kuttoor on the Thiruvalla-Chengannur stretch with Muthoor on the Thiruvalla-Changanacherry stretch. It can be used as a diversion route, as and when needed, the MLA said.
Mr. Thomas said the work had been awarded with a precondition to complete it in the next 18 months.
