Accused forcibly took possession of car, drove off with it

Three persons have been arrested for allegedly robbing a taxi driver and fleeing with his vehicle in January, police said on Wednesday. Police claimed to have recovered the stolen vehicle.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Jasmeet Singh said that the accused have been identified as Hardeep Singh, Vicky Gautam and Sunny Kumar, who allegedly robbed the victim Jitender on January 29 after kidnapping him from Anand Vihar bus terminus.

The police said that they received a call from the private taxi driver after the accused threw him out of his vehicle in Naraina. “The driver was having dinner after dropping a passenger at Anand Vihar when the accused came and overpowered him. They forcibly took possession of his car and drove off with the vehicle. One of them threatened him to remain quiet and asked him to handover all his belongings. Fearing for his life, he handed over two of his mobile phones and ₹6,000 to them. He was then forced out of the car,” Mr. Singh said.

With the help of technical and human intelligence, Sunny was nabbed and on his instance, Vicky was arrested from Patel Nagar, the police said adding that the two provided information about their third associate Hardeep. “Secret informers were pressed into service in Sultanpuri and Hardeep was also nabbed. Hardeep was planning to escape to Punjab after getting the information about the arrest of Vicky and Sunny,” the DCP said.
