lok sabha elections Updated: Mar 20, 2019 07:20 ISTThe Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will kickstart its campaign for the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi after Holi.
Several public meetings by senior party leaders, including home minister Rajnath Singh and defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman, will be held on March 24 and 26. The decision was taken in a meeting of senior party leaders on Tuesday.
The party will also form election management committees in all districts and parliamentary constituencies. All 280 mandals (which are at the ward level) will form such committees and meet on March 23.
“We will start the campaign after Holi, as the present period is considered inauspicious,” said Rajesh Bhatia, general secretary, Delhi BJP.
Rajnath Singh, along with Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari, will address public meeting in northeast Delhi, while Sitharaman will be in New Delhi parliamentary constituency on March 26. Environment minister and Chandi Chowk MP Harsh Vardhan and New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi will address rallies in east and west Delhi, respectively.
On March 24, BJP national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Anil Jain, party spokesperson Sambit Patra and JS Pawaiya, co-incharge of elections in Delhi, will address public meetings in North West Delhi, South Delhi and Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituencies.
The local BJP units have been asked to prepare a plan for door-to-door campaign, especially in slums and illegal colonies, considered AAP’s stronghold.
BJP MLA Vijender Gupta and South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri will file a complaint with the Election Commission against AAP for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.
Gupta said, “They are misusing picture of a cow and a calf and hurting sentiments of the public and inciting religious differences among different groups with intent to disturb the peace. The Aam Aadmi Party is also engaging its MLAs in field inspections during installation of CCTV cameras in different colonies and markets.”
