The jailed former lover of gangland lawyer and Victoria Police informer Nicola Gobbo, known as Lawyer X or Informer 3838, has lost his bid to get out of prison early.

Richard Barkho, the father of one of Ms Gobbo's two children, had sought to appeal against his five-year jail sentence for drug trafficking.

Barkho argued he should be granted leave to appeal for a lesser sentence because his partner was an informer, but the Court of Appeal refused his bid on Wednesday, with the judges ruling his relationship did not impact his sentence.
