Accused used to rob drivers of their vehicles and belongings, say police

Acting swiftly in a vehicle theft case, the Delhi Police busted a gang of robbers in Sarojni Nagar who used to drivers of their vehicles and belonging after hiring it, said police on Tuesday.

The accused have been identified Sonu and Satish, residents of south Delhi, said the police.

They said that on Monday, one Pankaj Kumar Chaudhary, who works as an auto driver, reported that on the intervening night of 17-18 March, while he was travelling from Dhaula Kuan to AIIMS, two persons stopped him and asked him to take them to Netaji Nagar. Both the passengers later asked him to take them towards Delhi College for Arts and Commerce.

The driver was later allegedly forced to stop the vehicle at an isolated place. As he stopped the auto, he said, one of the passengers quickly deboarded, while the other grabbed the driver by his neck. The two accused allegedly robbed all his belongings and his autorickshaw at knife point and threw him out of the vehicle. A case was reported in the matter at Sarojini Nagar police station.

During investigation, a police team on pickets duty in Sarojini Nagar spotted an autorickshaw coming towards them. The driver first slowed the vehicle down and then tried to flee. The driver and the occupant, however, were nabbed. “They confessed to have robbed the auto driver. A countrymade pistol with two live rounds and a knife have been seized, while two mobile phones were recovered from their possession. With the arrests, we have solved four cases of robbery,” said DCP (South-West) Devender Arya.
