LUDHIANA: For the convenience of the residents who are yet to clear their dues, Ludhiana Municipal Commission offices will remain open on March 23, 24, 30 and 31. The residents can go and deposit their property tax, water supply and sewerage dues on these dates as well. Apart from this, officials are told to remain in field and collect the tax door to door.
As many as 70,000 messages have been sent to defaulters for clearing their tax and informing the public that municipal commission offices will remain open through weekend. The department has recovered Rs 70 crore in property tax till now this month, but they have been told to recover Rs 30 crore more in remaining 10 days.
However, the officials could achieve only 50 per cent target, i.e., only Rs 37 crore against a target of Rs 75 crore from water supply and sewerage tax this year.
Ludhiana municipal commissioner KP Brar said, "People should come and deposit their tax by March 31 because after that they will have to pay penalty as well. From next financial year we will catch hold of the defaulters in the initial months."
