Suspected fire in cargo area leads to emergency landing of British Airways

The police came just after 1 a.m. local time at the ST. John’s International Airport before the transatlantic flight from New York landed.

 

 

According to the website for JFK International Airport the British Airways flight 174 was diverted to St.John’s.

 

A spokesman for the British Airways said in an email that there was an issue with the aircraft, a Boeing 777. However, there was no details on the nature of the issue and their engineers will be looking into the cause.

 

 

The passengers were sent to the hotel after they arrived in St.John’s and another aircraft would be dispatched from Heathrow to pick them up.

 

 

 

Spokesperson with the St.John’s airport Sara Sullivan said that several agencies were involved in the response that will include the airport authority’s emergency response team, police , Eastern Health and St. John’s Regional Fire Department.
