G Rengasamy Moopanar (86), the State executive committee member of the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) and the younger brother of party founder G K Moopanar, passed away in Chennai on Tuesday.

Sources said Rengasamy Moopanar, who was initially admitted to a private hospital in Chennai for a illness, was being treated at his nephew G K Vasan's house where he breathed his last.
Rengasamy Moopanar, a native of Sundaraperumalkoil near Kumbakonam, held several posts. He was the president of the Tiruvaiyaru Thyagabrahma Sabha, which conducts the annual Thyagaraja Aradhana festival at Tiruvaiyaru.
He also served as the president of the annual Kumbakonam Natyanjali festival being held at the Kumbeswaran temple in Kumbakonam. His last rites would be held in his native village on Wednesday.
