The first ever Heritage Committee meeting under the chairmanship of GHMC Commissioner M. Dana Kishore on Wednesday, resolved to send proposals to the government for re-notification of 137 heritage structures in the city which were earlier in the list of protected buildings under a HMDA regulation.
Proposals were also sent to designate a weekday for cleaning up of the heritage sites, and recruiting the vacant member posts for the committee. In 2019, the Telangana government had scrapped Regulation 13 of the HMDA which accorded protection to the heritage structures in the city, saying that the regulation was inconsistent with the A.P. Act 1/1975.
In due course of time, the government has promulgated Telangana Heritage Act 2017, according to which heritage committee was to be formed at GHMC level. Though the committee was formed under the chairmanship of the Commissioner, two member posts have been vacant, of the experts in Archaeology, History, and Heritage.
Proposals will be sent to government after selecting the two members, Mr. Dana Kishore informed.
