Attempt to rein in drug peddling

Operation Bolt, launched by the City police to rein in antisocial activities and peddling of narcotic substances, has been extended to labour camps in the city.

Areas which witness high concentration of labourers, including migrant workers, have come under the scanner of enforcement agencies. The police have raided 117 labour camps across the city.

11 arrested

The police have arrested 11 persons with alleged possession of narcotic substances.

Two persons were caught for purportedly peddling tobacco products.

According to the District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram City) Sanjay Kumar Gurudin, concerted efforts are being made to identify the source of the drug racket and those who smuggle the contraband to the city. History-sheeters caught in similar cases in the past were brought under surveillance as part of the operation.

Three days ago

Since the launch of the drive three days ago as part of an ‘anti-goonda action plan,’ 97 preventive arrests have been recorded by the City police. Besides, 314 people were apprehended from various areas.

Thirty-seven cases pertaining to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, were also registered.

The police have inspected 4,329 vehicles during the course of the drive. Among these, 292 vehicles were confiscated for various violations. Besides, petty cases were also registered against 2,990 motorists under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
