Coimbatore woman murdered for gain

COIMBATORE: A -70-year-old woman was found dead with her throat slit at Annai Velankanni Nagar in Sowripalayam here on Monday night. The woman’s gold chain weighing five sovereigns and a pair of earrings were missing.
The deceased has been identified as Mary Angeline, wife of Vijay Anandan of Annai Velankanni Nagar at Sowripalayam. She was a retired government staff nurse.
On Monday, a 30-year-old woman approached Mary on the pretext of seeing a house which Mary’s family wanted to let out on rent. Mary went to the house -- located nearby -- with the woman. However, she didn’t not return.
Her husband went to the house looking for his wife and found Mary lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit. Her gold jewellery was missing.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that a couple had visited Sowripalayam two days ago on the pretext of searching rental houses. The Peelamedu police, who registered a case, suspect the couple's involvement in the murder.
