PUC lecturers association likely to withdraw the valuation boycott call

MYSURU: The PU Lecturers Association is likely to withdraw its call to boycott II PUC exam valuation work. A decision in this regard is expected on Wednesday morning.

Speaking to The Times of India, Association president Thimmaiah Purle said that one of the main reasons for the boycott call was the opening of the II PUC classes early.

"Today evening, the state government issued an order extending the end of summer holidays for II PUC students from May 2 to May 20. As the government has agreed to one of our major demands, we are meeting on Wednesday morning to take a final decision on withdrawing the boycott call," he said.


Earlier in the day, the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) issued a reminder, warning stringent action including imprisonment against those who boycott II PUC answer script evaluation duty and instigate lecturers against participating in the valuation work. The department said the college principals will be held responsible if they failed to ensure that all their lecturers turn up for evaluation works.


According to the reminder issued by Prashant Kumar Mishra, director (examination), Pre University Education Department, to all the principals of PU colleges of the state, a total of 18,005 assistant valuators and 3,114 Deputy Chief Examiner (DC) have been issued duty orders. All the college principals were directed to download the duty orders and issue the same to the lecturers concerned. “If any lecturer boycotts or fails to turn up for the evaluation work, or if anyone is found obstructing the lecturers attending the evaluation related works, they will be held guilty under the various provisions of the Karnataka education act,” it said.


"As per the Education Act section 28, evaluation work is compulsory for lecturers. If they decline to attend the valuation work or abstain from the duty, they can be held guilty under section 122 of the Act. This section proposes one year's imprisonment, or Rs.10,000 fine or both. As per section 137, declining examination duty is a non bailable offence. Section 138 proposes action under section 28 against instigating any to absent, boycott from the evaluation works," he informed.


All PU college principals have been directed to create awareness about the rules among lecturers and ensure compulsory attendance for the evaluation works.
