PANAJI: BJP may have taken a long time to get consensus from its alliance partners for Pramod Sawant as Goa’s chief minister but during the negotiations, the saffron party pulled up a major achievement over the Shiroda bypolls.

Sources said in a pre-planned move, BJP managers cornered Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavlaikar and virtually got two of his colleagues—Manohar Azgaonkar and Deepak Pauskar—to switch over their loyalties to the saffron fold.

Sources said during the negotiations, Dhavalikar was told to withdraw MGP candidate from Shiroda constituency if he wanted to continue in the cabinet and be made a deputy chief minister.

Dhavalikar’s brother, who is the president of MGP, has announced his candidature for Shiroda bypolls and started his campaign three weeks ago for the April 23 bypolls.

Dhavalikar was told that if he didn’t withdraw his party’s candidate from the Shiroda constituency, BJP-led government would split his legislature party and allocate PWD and transport ministries to his colleagues.
