Belagavi: Mukta Dabholkar, the daughter of anti-superstition crusader late Narendra Dhabolkar inaugurated Jyoti Vivek Vahini, a branch of Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti (MANS) at Jyoti Pre-University College here on Tuesday.
Vivek Vahini is an organization of students and teachers interested in changing themselves and society. “Vivek Vahini develops confidence among students and youths, especially girls to express what they feel without hesitation. It develops confidence in them to become fearless and skills on how to communicate with family members and members in the society,” Mukta said.
Mukta clarified that there are no supernatural things in the world which can command human life. “There is no atma (soul) or rebirth. They are just fiction. The human body is made of somatic cells and there is nothing on the other side once these cells stop functioning,” she said. She called upon students to inculcate scientific thinking.
Mukta, who is promoting her father’s ideology father, clarified that MANS isn’t against worshipping of any deities and following of spiritual traditions which are personal. “Nobody can question such activities. We are only against financial or physical exploitation of people in the name of gods or ghosts,” she said.
Mukta said MANS was working effectively in Maharashtra but not so well in Karnataka, although both states have already implemented the Anti-Superstition Act. She said Belagavi was a place of intelligent people and hoped her movement takes off from the city in Karnataka in the coming days.
Dakshin Maharashtra Shikshan Mandal secretary Subhash Oulkar, prof Vikram Patil and Prof Suresh Patil were present.
