The police have seized ₹37.42 crore of unaccounted cash, 94.2 kg gold, 115.6 kg silver after the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the general elections came into force. The police have arranged 494 check-posts and 1,648 pickets across the State to check illegal flow of unaccounted money, gold, silver and liquor this election season.
“We have seized liquor worth ₹29.28 lakh, 387.51 kg of ganja and booked 319 criminal cases and 37 others for violation of the Model Code of Conduct,” a senior police official said.
Meanwhile, instructions have been issued to all Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Deputy SPs to inspect the polling stations that have been identified as critical, hold meetings with the village heads to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections.

As many as 702 polling booths have been identified as critical.
The booths have been classified as sensitive based upon the presence of rowdy-sheeters, past incidents of rigging, clashes, faction-related cases and polling stations located in areas affected by extremist activities. “The police personnel are visiting the sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas,” the officer said.
Flag march
As many as 392 companies of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) and 45 Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) battalions would be deployed for the Assembly and Parliament elections.
The Central forces will conduct flag marches in sensitive and hyper-sensitive villages, take up area domination exercises, conduct route checking in the Maoist-hit areas, the officer added.
