CHANDIGARH: The election department of the Chandigarh administration has stopped making corrections in voters' details. Only the forms that were received till March 10 will be fed into the system. But fresh voters' registration will continue until before the nomination papers are filed by the candidates.
"We have already fed the details pertaining to the changes in addresses and other related corrections of the voters' in our system. Since we need time to update the record, we fixed March 10 as the deadline to receive such applications," said an official of the election department.
But fresh voters can approach the office of the election department in Sector 17 to get their voter ID cards made. The department has also been sending teams to various education institutions and residential colonies as part of its campaign to encourage people to make their voter ID cards.
"Since the election commission wants a maximum voter turnout, we are still accepting applications for fresh voter IDs. It is yet to be decided by the election department till when fresh voter IDs will be made, but it has been indicated that this might continue until the filing of nomination papers by the candidates," said sources in the UT's election department.
Taking the "Vote for Healthy Democracy" campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh, on Monday launched a stamp with the message of "voting is your right, please cast your vote".
The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital. This initiative is a part of the systematic voters' education and electoral participation (SVEEP) programme of the election department, which aims to increase voter awareness and participation.
