LokSabha 2019: Transgender appointed election ambassador

MUMBAI: In a first, the Election Commission has appointed transgender Gauri Sawant as election ambassador so as to convince voters to cast their votes. 

The Election Commission added a third category for transgenders in the voters’ list from 2014.

Gauri Sawant will do a door to door campaign and explain the importance of voting to the transgenders. Her appointment will help more transgenders to register as voters.
