A 25-year-old doctor was duped of over ₹50,000 after she uploaded her resume on an online job portal, the police said on Monday.
Dr. Chaitali Joyce from Chhattisgarh’s Raipur who did her MBBS from a Jaipur college is currently staying in Central Delhi’s Patel Nagar, they said.
She allegedly told the police that she is preparing for her post-graduation entrance exams and also looking for a job in a hospital.
On February 7, she uploaded her resume on an online job portal. The next day, the victim received a call from a person who claimed to be an executive from the portal. The accused said she had been shortlisted for a renowned hospital.
“The caller told about the salary, job timings, and documents required to apply for the job. I was asked to submit scanned copies of my educational verification, PAN card details, and photo ID. He asked me to transfer ₹2,500 as registration fee,” she said.
The victim was then told that her telephonic interview has been scheduled with a doctor from the hospital.
A 20-min interview
The interview went on for about 20 minutes, she said. At the end of the call, she was told that she will soon be informed about the result, the police said.
“On February 9, I received an email stating that I have cleared the interview and now will have to complete the formalities. I was told that all the formalities were taken care of by the employment service and not the hospital directly,” she said.
The doctor was asked to pay ₹9,700 on February 9. Two days later, she was asked to pay ₹22,500 as bond money. On February 13, she was asked to pay ₹25,000 as bank account opening amount.
When on February 15, she was again asked to pay ₹28,500 on the pretext of security for training, she got suspicious. She then approached the customer care service of the online job portal. On calling the hospital, the staff informed her that she may have been conned.
Dr. Chaitali then approached the police after which an FIR was registered on March 16 at Patel Nagar police station.
A senior officer said a case under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
“Investigation has been taken up. The bank account details given by the victim are being looked into for leads in the case,” the officer added.
