Pune: Worried that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) might delay the tender process for buying spare parts for its buses by at least two months, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) has requested the Election Commission to exempt it from the code.

PMPML officers are concerned that the delay will adversely affect their services in the city.

The MCC came into force from March 10 and will continue till May 27. No policy decision or tendering process of any developmental work is made during this period.

PMPML buses continuously need spare parts such as tyres, oil and glass panes. These are bought in phases as per requirement through the process of tendering, which continues throughout the year.

The MCC has imposed limitations on the tender process, due to which the government is unable to float any new tender. This has stopped the purchase of spare parts. “We are corresponding with the Election Commission on the issue. Right now, there is no scarcity of spare parts with PMPML. However, if we are unable to buy them for two months, it might cause problems in the operation of the buses,” said Ajay
Charthankar, Deputy Managing Director.
