BAREILLY: Intensifying crackdown on liquor mafia with Holi round the corner and poll code already in place, police on Monday seized 720 cartons of illicit liquor and 30 litres of hooch, and arrested four people in this connection.
Police also impounded the mini-truck in which the liquor was being transported on Amroha road under Asmoli police station area in Sambhal district.
Superintendent of police Yamuna Prasad said a police team was on routine checking on Amroha road when they stopped a mini-truck loaded with liquor cartons.
“Accused Rampal Singh is an authorised liquor supplier having a licence issued by the excise office. However, in a bid to make quick money, he had picked more than prescribed quantity of bottles to supply wine shops in the festive season,” said SP.
“When the stock was verified with the paper he had been carrying — of the total 720 cartons, he had evaded duty on 16 cartons, following which all the stock was seized,” added SP.
Besides, police also nabbed three more accused — Umesh, Mohammad Guddu and Chaukhe Lal — during raids at different places and seized 30 litres of hooch and 16 pouches of country-made liquor from their possession.
