THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A day after he said he was shocked and pained by Congress's decision to deny a ticket to him for the Lok Sabha elections, former Union minister K V Thomas appeared pacified after his talks with top party leaders in New Delhi on Sunday and said he would work for MLA Hibi Eden who was picked up in his place to contest from Ernakulam.
Thomas, who said he has good friends in BJP after he was snubbed by Congress on Saturday, rubbished reports that he will join the saffron party. "Congress is my party and from the time of Indira Gandhi, the party has given me everything. Hence, I am a true Congressman and I will always remain a Congressman," he said.
He said he has reacted whenever he had a difference of opinion with the party. "I had to react since the party's decision came as a rude jolt for me. It pained me and I burst out. I was hurt not because I was denied the seat but by the way the party went about it, without informing me," he said after a meeting with opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala.
Earlier, Thomas, who has been a five-time MP and a two-time MLA, had fumed at Chennithala when he had come to meet him at his residence in New Delhi. He said the state leaders played major role in denying him the seat.
Sources said Chennithala offered Thomas the Ernakulam assembly seat if Eden is elected to the Lok Sabha along with the post of UDF convener if the present incumbent Benny Behannan gets elected from Chalakkudy.
