The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Anarock properties hosted a realtors’ meet in Mumbai on Friday.
Anuj Puri, the chairman of Anarock properties, told TOI that at the meet, MahaRERA chairman Gautam Chatterjee spoke about making the clearances for the affordable housing easy with a single window system and how more projects can come on track.
Of the 6,900 affordable housing units cleared by MahaRERA, nearly 80% are less than 640 sq ft. With the government stressing on affordable housing, the green channel will enable faster clearances from the local authorities. The meet also put forth the demand to earmark land for affordable housing.
MahaRERA emphasized that as the Mumbai Development Plan has specifically allocated plots for residential purposes, the remaining parts of the state too should do the same to ensure there is enough land being earmarked for affordable housing.
The state government allocated Rs6,895 crore to push affordable housing.
