- Shopper said she struggled to find clothes in her size when she visited a store
- But she was furious after receiving a blunt response from customer service
- Kmart has since spoken to the customer directly to apologise for the comments
A plus-size shopper has been left furious after being told by a Kmart employee that it wasn't their job to 'make you feel good about yourself' after filing a complaint online.
The woman claimed she visited a Sydney store recently where she struggled to find outfits in her size after a staff member pointed her in the wrong direction twice.
Frustrated by the in-store experience, she complained about the lack of plus-size clothing via the discount retailer's Facebook page last week - but she received an abrupt email reply on Monday morning.
'Thank you for contacting us. Whilst we try to cater for as many people as possible please understand people come in all shapes and sizes and we can't cater for absolutely everyone,' the customer service member said in the email.
'It is not entirely our job to make you feel good about yourself.'

An Australian shopper who complained about the lack of plus-size clothing at Kmart has been left furious after she received a blunt response from a customer service member

The woman claimed she made a complaint with Kmart after she struggled to find clothing in her size, but she was shocked when she received a very abrupt response
A Kmart spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia: 'We are truly sorry for these comments and have spoken directly to this customer to apologise.
'This does not reflect Kmart's views at all. We want every customer that interacts with Kmart to have a pleasurable shopping experience and on this occasion we have not lived up to this commitment.'
The comment comes after the Australian woman called out Kmart for not stocking enough plus-size clothing at her local store.
'You have no idea how hurtful this is. I struggle to find anything anywhere that fits me, I'm just trying to find workout clothes and my whole section is gone,' she said in an emotional direct message to the Kmart Facebook group.
'When I do find it, there's nothing appropriate! Not to mention that your activewear doesn't go up in sizes either.
'Fat people deserve better. I shouldn't have to humiliate myself by asking a staff member where the fat section is only to be pointed to the wrong place anyway. I'm so disappointed. It's 2019. Step it up, please.
'Let us have clothes that make us feel good and happy, and remember that fat people have shapes and don't need to be 'flattered' all the time. It's like your store wants fat people to feel ashamed, but I'm not ashamed. I'm just angry.'

The Sydney woman initially made a complaint via the Kmart Facebook page before she was told she would receive an email from a customer service staff member for further inquiries

She also claimed the plus-sized clothing range was limited to 'half a rack and shoved in the darkest part of the store in between the pyjamas and maternity wear'.
'Kmart doesn't cater to activewear for bigger plus sizes so I tried to hunt down at least a pair of their cheap tights and the store was so poorly laid out that I couldn't find those in ANY size let alone mine,' she claimed.
'I asked store employees for help and both times was pointed in the wrong direction. It was a really frustrating experience.'
After complaining via Facebook, the woman received an apology.
'Thanks for sharing your experience at Kmart recently. At Kmart, it's important to us that you leave our store feeling confident and happy. We're sorry this wasn't the case and we'd love to take any feedback on board as to how we can improve our plus-size range for you and other women in our stores,' the Facebook response said.
The woman was then told she would be contacted via email by a customer service staff member for further inquiries.
'I immediately wrote to Kmart on FB (sic), including how the whole situation felt really s***ty , and I was told to pass on my email address for a response where they would be able to take more details and follow up any suggestions I had,' she said.
But instead she received the blunt response.
'This is the response I get. Kmart needs to f***ing do better,' she said.
