The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) demolished six illegal under-construction structures, and sealed nine other illegal under-construction buildings at Rajiv Nagar on Monday.

MCG officials said they were located within a radius of 900 metres of the Indian Air Force (IAF) ammunition depot.

MCG officials said that the six structures that were demolished by earthmovers were in the initial stages of construction, although it could be confirmed whether these structures were being built for residential or for commercial purpose.

The nine other under-construction structures that were sealed were situated at the sites for four commercial shops and five houses. “All these structures were located within a 900- metre radius of the Indian Air Force (IAF) ammunition depot where the MCG continuously carries out sealing and demolition drives if rules are violated. None of the owners of the sealed and demolished buildings had procured a building plan from the MCG. This prompted the civic body to take action,” said SS Rohilla, public relations officer (PRO) of the MCG.

MCG officials also said the drive was carried out under heavy police cover and that they faced no resistance.

Last year, MCG officials had faced severe resistance from residents of the same area during demolition drives.

Apart from damages to vehicles, during a drive in May last year, the then district town planner of MCG’s enforcement wing had fractured his arm, after he fell while evading stones that were hurdled at him by residents of the area.
