All India Open Snooker Championship: Pankaj Advani, Aditya Mehta in summit clash

Mumbai: Pankaj Advani will take on Aditya Mehta, in an all ONGC affair at the All India Open Snooker Cricket Club of India’s Championship, here on here on Tuesday. Champion, Advani continued his fine run in this edition of the championship with a fluent 6-2 win over Malkeet Singh of Railway, in the contest at the CCI’s Sir Wilson Jones Billiards Room, here on Monday.

Making his intentions clear, Mehta started off with a blazing 73 break in the first frame as he ended the campaign of Laxman Rawat (Indian Oil) with a 6-3 margin to set up the summit clash with the Asian champion Advani. With two such big breaks Mehta, scripted an 73-30. 67-45. 40-63, 44-71, 112-0, 15-81, 58-14, 88-25, 75-16.

Advani, the national snooker champion and winner of multiple world titles, was tactical in his approach and compiled breaks of 68, 84 and 45 to register a 10-65, 75-36, 56-78, 63-21, 134-0, 56-19, 85-21 and 54-47 victory. Earlier, in an engrossing quarter-final which concluded late Sunday night, Malkeet got the better of Ishpreet Singh Chadha of Mumbai 5-4. In a tense match Malkeet snatched a 76-39, 1-69, 72-02, 52-69, 29-80, 66-26, 75-65, 0-85 and 65-30 victory. Aditya Mehta after going down 0-2 recovered to overcome beat Himanshu Jain of Telangana by a 5-3 margin with the frame scores reading 56-66, 35-65, 67-49, 70-48, 66-1, 12-69, 68-22 and 67-9 victory and a clash with Rawat in the semi-finals.
