Are Leopards going to lose PSL top goal scorer?

2019-03-18 09:45

Cape Town - The Absa Premiership's top scorer, Mwape Musonda, could be out of contract at the end of the season according to reports doing the rounds in the media.

The Black Leopards striker has netted 12 goals so far this campaign bit it seems the Zambian only has three months left on his deal at the club.

Musonda arrived at the Limpopo club in 2016 and signed a three-year deal, helping the club gain promotion to the PSL by being the top scorer in the National First Division last season.

Leopards have already lost the services of Phathusedzo Nange and Marks Munyai for next season after both players signed pre-contracts elsewhere.

An unnamed source told Kickoff: "Most of the players, their contracts are ending in June, so none will stay I think.

"I think he (Musonda) will leave, his contract is expiring but I'm not sure. He signed three years when he arrived, and three years is ending in June... about five players I think."

Black Leopards club official Tshifiwa Thidiela however dismissed suggestions that their hitman was going anywhere.

Thidiela said: "We are not new in football. You know all our players we negotiate our contracts a year before or in advance for the next coming season, we have already planned who we want.

"Also, Musonda is not being a top goal scorer for the first time, he was also the leading marksman last year in the NFD.

"But now people feel that because he is a top goalscorer, he has scored, and he must be playing for Sundowns or must be playing for Chiefs or Pirates... besides, do you know that he has been to Pirates already?

"And it's not necessary that if he moves then it means he is going to score goals, I mean how many people have to settle first? Because when you move you must think about all those things."
