TIRUPUR: Some commercial establishments in Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu have come forward and joined in an voting awareness campaign. They have printed slogans on their bills.
As part of the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) programme, the district election cell has started distributing rubber stamps to some shops, so that they could imprint the slogans on bills given to their customers.
"We have been running a medical shop for the last three years in Avinashi. Since we are ardent supporters of Athikadavu Avinashi drinking water supply and groundwater recharge scheme, our bills would always carry a slogan on the scheme. As the country is going to polling booth, we wanted to do our bit in creating awareness about voting. So, our bills have an additional slogan -- 'My vote is not for sale, all should exercise their voting right on April 18'," said K Subramaniam of Kalanjiyam Vivasaigal Sangam, which runs Sanjeevani Pharmacy.
Assistant returning officer B Jayakumar said, "We have started distributing rubber stamps, which could imprint different slogans for creating awareness about voting."
