We got a step-by-step breakdown from the actor’s makeup artist to help you recreate her latest look

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja likes to keep things interesting with the many fashion and beauty showcases she debuts on a regular basis. This weekend, the actor leaned into the season with a Holi-inspired eye look for her appearance at an awards show. “For Sonam’s eye makeup, we really wanted to have a lot of fun, so we decided to play with colours. Pastel blue and purple on the lid, yellow in the inner corner and pink on the bottom lash line,” says Arti Nayar, Kapoor Ahuja’s longtime makeup artist. We spoke to Nayar about how you can get the eye makeup look for yourself at home for Holi 2019.

- Start by applying a mattifying primer to the face, and follow with a matte finish foundation. Conceal under the eyes and over any dark spots.
- Dab a matte contouring powder like Make Up For Ever Sculpting Kit under the cheekbones, over the tops of the temples and along the sides of the nose and jawline. Blend the product in circular, upwards motions with a fluffy brush. Then, apply blush to the apples of the cheeks and a highlighter on the high points of the cheekbones.
- Prep the lid with an eye base primer like Milani Eyeshadow Primer. Using a palette like Anastasia Beverly Hills Riviera Eyeshadow Palette, pick up a blue shade with a damp brush and apply it onto the inner corner of the eye. Blend it towards the outer corner while making sure it does not spread all over the lid. Then, use a purple shade to blend the outer and inner corners, making sure the blue and purple shades stay separate. Follow this with a bright yellow hue at the inner corners of the eye, blending it to get a soft finish. Lastly, use a pink pencil like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Woodstock for the lower lash line, and go over it with a matte pink eyeshadow.
- To complete the eye look, use brown kajal on the top and bottom lash lines. Add fake lashes, curling with a curler, and smudge a glitter cream-based eyeshadow close to the lash lines to give the eyes a dreamy finish.
- If you’re working with damp hair, apply a blow-dry cream and before styling your strands straight. To give hair more polish, apply a smoothing cream like the Aveda Smooth Infusion Nourishing Styling Creme and run a hair straightener down your lengths. Comb your mane out with a paddle brush, and secure the hair into a high bun. Tamp down any flyaways by spritzing a hair brush with hairspray and combing them back.
