Mumbai: A 37-year-old man, who had gone missing on March 6, was found dead in Bhiwandi a few days later, under the jurisdiction of Narpoli police station. While one accused was arrested by Narpoli police, his accomplice was apprehended from Mulund by local police. Police have booked the arrested duo for murder and causing the disappearance of evidence.

Prasad Tiwari (37) was working as a money collector agent for a firm dealing with plastic raw materials. In his line of work, Tiwari often returned home with a big wad of cash belonging to his boss, only to give it to him the next day.

On March 5, Tiwari had come home with close to Rs 12 lakh that he collected from a supplier to give to his boss and left with that briefcase the next day at 11am. However, Tiwari did not return home for two days and was nowhere to be found. Panicked over her brother’s disappearance, Tiwari’s sister approached Mulund police station on March 8 to lodge a missing person complaint.

Mulund police began investigating the case and questioned Tiwari’s boss and co-workers to understand Tiwari’s most frequented places. Meanwhile, Narpoli police found an unidentified body dumped in a Bhiwandi forest and they registered a case of murder.

After matching the primary appearance, DNA and other identification marks, it was revealed the unidentified body was that of Tiwari’s. However, police did not find the money or the suitcase Tiwari was carrying with him when he left his home. Narpoli police also arrested a man in connection to the murder and found out that he had an accomplice.

On Saturday, Mulund police received a tip-off that the main accomplice of the accused was going to visit his Mulund residence on Saturday evening and laid a trap accordingly. Police immediately apprehended the accomplice and recovered Rs 1.50 lakh from him. “During the investigation, the accomplice confessed of his crime and said he had decamped with the money that Tiwari was carrying.

Since the murder case was registered at Narpoli police station, we have given the arrested accused’s custody to them for further investigation,” said Akhilesh Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7). The arrested duo has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to murder (section 302) and causing the disappearance of evidence (section 201).
