MUMBAI: A special trial court judge allowed Peter Mukerjea, accused in Sheena Bora murder case, to be shifted to a private hospital of his choice with police cover to receive treatment for a heart attack he suffered.
Sessions judge J G Jagdale on Monday passed the order after state-run JJ hospital doctor informed court that Mukerjea is “advised Bypass surgery as first option and angioplasty as the next option as soon as possible.”
Mukerjea was admitted to JJ hospital on March 16, after complaining of chest pain for five days and getting an ECG done in Arthur Road jail where he is housed as an under-trial accused in the Sheena Bora murder case.
Mukerjea, through his lawyer Amit Ghag, made an application to be shifted to a private hospital for treatment. The court heard Ghag and special CBI prosecutor Bharat Badami as well as the JJ Hospital doctor.
The doctor informed the court that Mukerjea’s angiography was done on Monday and it was found that he had four blockages in all the three main arteries including a “100 per cent blockage in one artery”.
He had a mild heart attack, said the doctor, adding that the report of the angiogram would be available in the evening.
The doctor later told the court that Peter had been advised a bypass after which the court then passed the order allowing Peter to be shifted.
